Career Capture is a short-form video-based Job Application site designed to augment traditional university recruiting platforms to help students stand out in an ever-competitive first job market. career capture is designed to assist students, recent college, university, and trade school graduates in securing first jobs, internships, and work-study opportunities. career capture is different, leveraging the hybrid learning experience of most modern-day students and operating solely through video resumes and applications. Recruiters and candidates record short videos describing the available job opportunity or the candidate's ability to fulfill the role.

Elevator Pitch

An applicant's cover video or "elevator pitch" serves as the featured communication for every application.

This video is the modern cover letter, allowing students to let their voices be heard to tell potential employers about themselves in a way that is much more authentic than a one-page resume.

The elevator pitch video is also utilized by career capture in circumstances such as career fairs or work study applications.

Company Fit

This video showcases a candidate's fit for the specific employer. For 60 seconds, candidates are encouraged to address

This video will be used for every open position a candidate submits to a given employer (i.e., if a user applies to 10 positions at the same company, this video will be the same for all of them).

While a student may not be perfect for the open position, they may be a strong match for another role in the same business. Our research has shown that a strong cultural match helps to significantly decrease entry-level turnover.

In this final video, we encourage candidates to highlight their skills based on the application guidelines (i.e., these are skills I have that your job needs, and here are results that I can bring that would benefit the open position).

In addition to the three candidate videos outlined above that make up an application, Career Capture also encourages recruiters to share 60-second video clips describing the opportunity, highlighting key aspects of the work, environment, team, and required skills. Here again, our advice is based on research -- students create far more authentic applications in response to video job descriptions than they do in response to standard written listings. Lastly, we encourage companies to also upload “a day in the life” video highlighting what it is like to work at the company.
